Radon daughter removal from PTFE surfaces and its application in liquid xenon detectors

چکیده

Abstract Long-lived radon daughters are a critical background source in experiments searching for low-energy rare events. Originating from ambient air, radioactive polonium, bismuth and lead isotopes plate-out on materials that later employed the experiment. In this paper, we examine cleaning procedures their capability to remove PTFE surfaces, material often used liquid xenon TPCs. We find large difference between removal efficiency obtained decay chains of $$^{222}$$ 222 Rn $$^{220}$$ 220 Rn. This indicates mechanism has an effect success. While long-lived can be reduced by factor 2, is up 10 times more efficient depending treatment. Furthermore, impact nitric acid based purity investigated small-scale TPC.

Measuring Reflective Properties of PTFE for Applications in Liquid Xenon Detectors

The XENON100 experiment uses 161kg of liquid xenon divided in two concentric cylinders. The inner volume is the time-projection chamber, the outer volume is the veto, and they are separated by PTFE (Teflon) panels. In the region 350nm to 1200nm, PTFE has a measured reflectivity of 99%. However, xenon emits in the UV region, and the reflectivity distribution is not sufficiently understood here. ...

Neutrino physics with multi-ton scale liquid xenon detectors

We study the sensitivity of large-scale xenon detectors to low-energy solar neutrinos, to coherent neutrino-nucleus scattering and to neutrinoless double beta decay. As a concrete example, we consider the xenon part of the proposed DARWIN (Dark Matter WIMP Search with Noble Liquids) experiment. We perform detailed Monte Carlo simulations of the expected backgrounds, considering realistic energy...

Characterization of alginate polymer and its application in copper removal from liquid wastes

Copper is one of the most dangerous pollutants that require removal from wastewater effluents before being discharged. Here are reported on the adsorption performance of a novel environmental friendly material, calcium alginate gel beads as a non-conventional technique for the successful removal of copper ions from aqueous solution. Batch equilibrium studies were carried out to evaluate the ads...

construction and validation of translation metacognitive strategy questionnaire and its application to translation quality

like any other learning activity, translation is a problem solving activity which involves executing parallel cognitive processes. the ability to think about these higher processes, plan, organize, monitor and evaluate the most influential executive cognitive processes is what flavell (1975) called “metacognition” which encompasses raising awareness of mental processes as well as using effectiv...
